‘Dear Diary’ has been shoved over by ‘Dear Bloggers’.
Cryptic passwords and cyber anonymity has made redundant the brain wracking needed for innovative hiding places around the house.
We are all here on blogosphere for our own reasons, Ghost. You wrote, “ I think it's because we find that underneath all that over fullness of our lives, there's an emptiness. There's something in us that demands answers -- answers that our daily lives will not give.”
Yes. There are unanswered Qs and a www discussion offers a FAR wider spectrum than just two of your best buddies.
Then there’s the purging aspect. Writing is exorcism, therapy of sorts. And this online counselling is for FREE!
It’s about the novelty of this whole concept of washing your dirty linen in public, incognito!
It’s also about much sought approval somewhere… It’s about exclaiming, “See!!! I knew it! I’m not losing it… they all are!”
It’s about self-discovery.
It’s also about exhibitionism.
Or having too much time on your hand. [Some blogs really suck! I’ve been told the same : ) about mine]
It’s about “Lemme give it a shot” like most of us would try a new drink. Many register just out of curiosity and never re visit, leaving a huge number of dead blogs in servers.
It’s about, “I say, go to hell. I mean it. Maybe this form means nothing to you. Well, fine, because I am not writing for you. I am writing for me. I am writing for what I get out of the process of thinking about any issue and explaining my view to my readers. I am writing for the responses I get from my readers. I am writing for the interplay with the larger community of bloggers. "
The critics feel that most blogs are crap. You know… the What-I-Ate-For-Breakfast type of blogs. But here’s what some guy wrote about blogs…
“I've always thought that even if nobody reads your writings, even if you delete or throw away your words right after you've written them, that act of writing makes you a better person. It organizes your brain connections in such a way that helps you think critically and clearly. It turns the random impulses and emotions running around your head into something that is more organized and tangible, and that is always good."
And blogs are a whole new platform for serious causes. Governments have been forced to sit up and take notice. They swing wildly at first by imposing bans, but they’re not bull shitting anybody. Blogs are going to be the future of news. Can’t you see it coming? See how the 24-hour news channels have done to the print media [yeah, yeah its debatable…we can take it up some time]. With advent of mobile technology ANYONE can record, download and publish NEWS firsthand. News channels are already paying people with candid footage of any event. I feel the Blogs are going to change the whole scene.
Blogs will be about business opportunities. Some big VCs are tracking its evolution. I read of some celeb blogs that charge money to be read. Maybe scientists/researchers would race to publish their findings online so they can holler, “I did it first!” If the parent site allows, the most visited pages could take up Google’s Adsense offer where they use your page as media space and pay for letting them run their banners.
Blogs are going to get bigger.
Till then let’s get our fix of voyeurism and do all the answer seeking, introspection & ghost busting [Sorry : ) Trish]
